Sun is shining even brighter! |
Posted Tue, Mar 13 2007 @ 11:44 AM by Karmina

| We’ve been experiencing some unusually warm temperatures on the west coast this winter and it could be attributed to the fact that SunGrokker is shining even brighter!
The Digital Libraries & Research group within Sun Learning Services has enhanced its next generation visual search and discovery tool and delivered it across their entire organization. Expanding their unified search to include Yahoo, Google & Wilkipedia while simultaneously searching against internal resources such as Sun MailFinder and subscription based content such as NetLibrary, SunGrokker is really heating things up! Add to that more high-powered web 2.0 collaboration tools like “Swanlicious” – Sun’s internal version of social book marking site Del.icio.us -- one can say that innovation is truly “baking” over at Sun.
Stay tuned for the next forecast…

Today we’ve put our Grokker ESM 2.0 beta on the our site so that our site visitors can use it to Grok the Yahoo!, Wikipedia, and Amazon Books. We’ve been working on it for a few months and we’re anxious to hear what our users have to say about. So visit the new Grokker and hit that Beta Feedback link on the top right. Tell us what you like, what you don’t like, what you don’t get, and if you find any bugs.
What’s next for Grokker? ESM is designed for enterprises that need to give their workers better access to internal, external and subscription content, so look for lots of new features that enable collaboration, more efficient research, and enhanced productivity.

Visual Search at EBSCOhost: The Start of a Great Partnership |
Posted Tue, Mar 14 2006 @ 01:36 PM by Rosie

|
Today we announced that we’ve partnered with EBSCO Publishing to provide Visual Search to users of the EBSCOhost database platform. EBSCOhost includes over 200 research databases and is used by businesses, universities, hospitals, schools, libraries and many other institutions all over the world.
With Visual Search, EBSCO’s users can see relationships among results, filter results on the fly, and quickly come to understand the value and dimension of the information that EBSCO provides. We even found this commentary on a blog: "EBSCO is offering this type of searching on some of their databases. It freaks my mind out like chess does. I can feel my brain thinking when I get the results." We'll take that as a compliment!
If you’re already an EBSCO subscriber, you can experience EBSCO visual search by clicking on the Visual Search tab. If you’re not, check out this demo of EBSCO Visual search.
We’re excited about working with EBSCO – not just because they’re innovative and forward thinking, but also because they’re passionate about delivering top notch information services to all of their clients.

Totally Cool, Completely Inspiring |

This is about the best example of innovation, creative thinking, and technology coming together to deliver something that changes everything in its space that I've seen since the invention of the ATM (which I believe was the primary driver of economic growth in the last quarter of the 20th century). This new multiplayer rpg (still under development) makes our current gaming options look like pong.
Check out this 35 minute video presentation by game developer Will Wright. Even if the game weren't so revolutionary, it would still be fun to listen to Wright's narration of his invention. Inspiring. |

Grokker in Good Company |

We announced this week that Groxis has been recognized as one of the 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management by KM World magazine. One of the more exciting aspects of this honor is that KM World chose the companies based on their demonstrated capacity for customer-driven innovation.
From the start, we’ve developed Grokker with the end-user in mind. For every feature, we start with the question, “How does this improve the end user’s work flow?” We always put ourselves into the customer’s seat and we often put our customers into our seats and simply watch them use Grokker. We learn a lot from watching how our customers actually use Grokker, and then we try to put our lessons to work to make Grokker better for them.
We’ll be demonstrating our new release at KMWorld’s Enterprise Search Summit in New York on May 23 & 24, 2006. We hope to see you there!

Solving a Problem, Simply |

I remember the very first time I bought a book (The Beach by Alex Garland) at Amazon. The moment I hit the submit order button, I was hooked. It was easy and intuitive, and it solved a problem for me: I love to read, but – with a few notable exceptions listed below - hate to shop.
My first Amazon experience was in March, 1997 and, since then, I don’t think I’ve had many technology-related experiences that so quickly became a fundamental part of how I do things. Quickly is the operative word here. I am not an early adopter. While I’m no Luddite, I view most technology that purports to ‘solve’ a problem with suspicion.
When the early adopters (almost everybody but me) here at Groxis claimed that Jotspot wiki hosting software would solve our company communications and project management problems, I was naturally suspicious. |

Grokker + FAST = A Great Partnership |

Here in San Francisco, rain isn’t so much falling as it is enveloping the city, making everything, even the undersides of our umbrellas wet. That doesn’t matter so much to the lucky Grokker sales team who are in Miami demonstrating Grokker’s new FAST Search connector at FAST Search and Transfer’s FAST Forward ’06 Business and Technology Conference.
The demo product is the first of many new enterprise search application connectors and enhancements we will create as a result of our partnership with FAST. (Read the press release.)
We’re very excited to partner with FAST and to have the opportunity to develop new ways to enhance what is already one of the most innovative and agile search applications in the market today.

| I suggest that anyone interested in how effective search is quickly becoming essential to business check out David Hartzbrand’s blog at Sandhill.com. In the column, he discusses search in terms of business processes and notes that as knowledge and research become more important in the workplace, so do does effective search that provides workers with not just answers, but with the tools to understand and use those answers to drive innovation in business.

Too Much Information? |
Posted Thu, Dec 22 2005 @ 05:56 PM by Rosie

| Monday’s Wall Street Journal had an interesting article entitled “Beyond Google” in which the reporter, Kevin J. Delaney, wrote, “While Google Inc., Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp. are great at serving up answers to many types of queries, they aren’t always the best way to find specialized information. You’ll often get thousand of results for your query – but many of them end up off-topic and there’s no easy way to narrow them down to get to what you want.” |
