Pilot Program Makes Grokker Research Available to Businesses and Universities
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – JUNE 20, 2005 — /PRNewswire/ — Groxis, the leader in visual search software, today announced a pilot program for Grokker Research, a Web–based platform for delivering a wide variety of content sources to corporate and educational users. Grokker Research provides researchers with federated access to library databases, subscription services, and internet search engines. In a related announcement today, Groxis announced a successful implementation of a customized research platform at Sun Microsystems.
The pilot, commencing in July, represents the first phase of a rollout of products designed to deliver quality content from both Web–based and subscriber–only premium content services – known as “the deep Web” — to business, academic and consumer markets. Groxis will make Grokker Research available free–of–charge to businesses and universities for trial periods lasting between three and six months.
Platform Eliminates Barriers to Access
Grokker Research improves research and increases utilization of online and subscription-based content by eliminating the barriers to access posed by the multiple user interfaces and disparate reporting structures that characterize many business and university research environments. Grokker presents hundreds of topically organized research results in an easy–to–navigate visual map. The visual presentation gives researchers greater insight into both the resources available to them and the relationships among results from different sources.
“Grokker Research addresses two major challenges faced by businesses and universities today,” said R.J. Pittman, president and CEO of Groxis. “First it delivers high–quality research content from virtually any digital source via a familiar, intuitive Web–based interface. Second, it extends the reach of internet search engines by facilitating exploration of results far beyond the first page of links. The result is more effective research.”
Delivering Structured and Unstructured Content to Researchers
Grokker's retrieval engines utilize XML technology to extract data from any digital content source. Its powerful clustering engines do not rely upon rigid taxonomies or data structures, but rather analyze text and metadata to organize and present categorized results in a way that is meaningful to the researcher.
“This approach is obviously cost effective, and it enables businesses and universities to deliver the broadest possible array of resources to researchers,” said Pittman. “With easier access to data, organizations can turn their attention to expanding collections, rather than devoting time and budget to creating taxonomies and databases. This is crucial considering that typical business and university libraries today have catalogs in the millions of volumes, as well as premium subscription content, cross institutional agreements, and the internet.”
Save and Share Features Facilitate Collaborative Research
The platform's tool set features built–in email, called “GrokMail,” that allows researchers to share results with anyone, anywhere. Grokker also includes a save feature, solving the challenge posed by unrepeatable results and making long-term research projects easier to manage.
